It's Seasonal

You know how there are only certain times of the year sellers dust off their boxes of stored supplies because they have a specific product that only makes its greatest debut in its due season. I think about how much power, excitement, and wonder is stored away all year, only because it hasn’t been taken out, put on display for selection, and then taken home for the true magic to begin. Have you ever gotten the sense that there are certain people, environments, or opportunities that if they ever got that close to you, just like the match when it collides with the wick, there will be fireworks?

It’s summer here. The time where we take out our shades and flipflops, grab our beach towels and slushies, head outdoors for longer adventures into the night, and yes buy the mountains of fireworks that have been stored away all year.

One of the things my childhood best friend would always say is, “It’s seasonal.” He usually delivered those words when things were going slightly array in our lives. He’d say it to make sense of what was driving us senseless. It was just the times and seasons. Things we must face, endure, and bear. Those pesky light and momentary afflictions that Paul spoke about.

I’m assuming that’s how the Christmas décor feels all year too. When is it going to be our turn? When can we get out of these stuffy boxes and light houses and yards up with our grandiosity? I’m sure you can relate. You want out of the drying rack. You even want out of the china cabinet. You’re ready to be picked and put on display for who you are and what you can do.

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1) And we’ve all heard that God makes everything beautiful in His time (v. 11), not ours. God’s perspective and timing are often so drastically different than what we’d put together if we held a magic wand. Right now we’re banging the ones we have in our hands that don’t work against the wall because we thought that time was a long time ago!

Settle down. There’s something for you to be doing right where you are. As you work or are being worked on, you begin to sense the proximity of the thing you’re being prepared for and that’s exciting. One of the quotes I love that Pastor Jerry Flowers of Redefined TV typically says is “what God does in you while you wait is more important than what you’re waiting on.”

I’ve spoken previously about how I’d destroy the gifts and rewards God intended for me if I wasn’t healthy enough and could not steward them well. Last week I shared that I was still on the drying rack. I keep testing for dampness to see if I’m ready yet. Ready to be taken out of my holding cell and put on display so that the things I’m supposed to collide with I will.

I remind myself that if I’m still tucked away or only on display, it’s simply not time yet. But oh baby, when it is – there’s going to be fireworks.

Have you sensed God preparing you to collide with something or someone? Are you anxious, frustrated, excited? Give all your emotions to God and ask Him to help you keep still until you and they are ready.
